Project Title: Emergency food security and livelihoods assistance to vulnerable, critically food insecure households in Aweil East, South Sudan

Project location: Warawar Aweil East former Northern Bahr-el Ghazal state, South Sudan

- Project: CFGB2

I am a mother of 5 children and a head of the household. My husband was left disabled after he was shot during the previous civil war of South and North Sudan. He was left incapable of heading and providing for the family which prompted me to step up and head the family. Before I was registered in the food aid program, every single day was a struggle but I kept going and glad that my family was alive. We mostly had one meal per day but I do as well remember the days when we would go without food. I would get our income through sale firewood, charcoal and sometimes I did casual labour for my neighbours. I am not saying everything became perfect but our lives changed when we registered in the CEDS/Tearfund food aid program. We could now afford 2 meals per day. I was less stressed and felt like a heavy load had been taken off my back. I had more time to rest, to cultivate, to support and care for my family. I have been able to cultivate more and create food stocks. I also received seeds and tools which have been very helpful. With food in the house I am able to concentrate on crop production. I am glad to Tearfund and CEDS for reducing my burden, May God bless them.
